What can the ancient science of Jyotish tell you about 2024?
What does 2024 have in store for you?
We can never know for certain, but the ancient science of Jyotish, or science of light, might give you some insights. Along with Ayurveda, Jyotish, also known as Vedic Astrology, is one of the sister sciences of Yoga. For students of yoga, Jyotish can give you a deeper understanding of how your asana practice relates to the concepts of karma and dharma.
In Vedic philosophy and yoga, Karma is the force generated by a person’s past and present actions which has ethical consequences for the nature of a person’s current existence. In other words, if our actions have consequences, Karma is the ethical consequence of our accumulated actions on the nature of our own life experiences. Dharma is the life path, or life purpose, that results from our karma. To align with our dharma is to correct or make up for past karmas and move toward a life in tune with our highest values.
When I went to India last October, I visited an astronomical observatory called Jantar Mantar in Jaipur. Jantar Mantar is home to enormous astronomical tools created to precisely map the current movement of the stars, sun and planets across our sky. The giant sundial is so big it measures the movement of the sun in 2-second increments.
One of the primary reasons establishing this level of precision was important was to be able to better map the constellations of the Vedic zodiac onto specific places on earth at specific points in time, for a more accurate understanding of a person’s astrological chart.
In India, they take Vedic astrology very seriously!
This weekend, the Yoga Collective at MBS is pleased to welcome founder of MelMarie Yoga, Melissa Aguirre, for an introductory workshop on Vedic Astrology. Attendees will experience a special practice of guided meditation and grounding accompanied by a healing vibrational sound bath, learn a little about the ancient science of light, and leave with a basic Vedic astrology chart based on your own birth place and date. Students of yoga and yoga teachers will learn more about Yoga’s sister science that can deepen your pwn teaching of asana and other concepts from the yoga teachings. Register online to save your spot!
